Following the release of the news report titled “117 Cases Against Khaleda-Tarique” in Bangladesh Pratidin, only 44 cases have been dismissed or cancelled in the past 11 days, leaving 73 still unresolved. These fabricated and baseless cases continue to loom over the heads of the two top leaders of the BNP like a sword.
A total of 117 politically motivated, false, and fabricated cases have been filed against BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and the party’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, during the 15-year tenure of the fascist Awami League government and the two years of the prior Fakhruddin-Moinuddin government.
In the past 11 days, only 44 of these cases have been dismissed or cancelled.
From October 20 to October 31, the courts have processed these cases through the established legal procedures, leading to their dismissal and cancellation.
On October 20, Bangladesh Pratidin released a report titled “117 Cases Against Khaleda-Tarique.”
On that same day, the court began the process of dismissing and cancelling these cases. This information has been verified by the attorney representing Begum Zia and Tarique Rahman.
In this regard, Barrister Kayser Kamal, the legal affairs secretary of the central BNP and the attorney of Begum Zia and Tarique Rahman, told Bangladesh Pratidin that the cases will be resolved through established legal processes and in accordance with the constitutional framework of the Criminal Procedure Code.
So far, 23 cases against Begum Zia and 21 cases against Tarique Rahman have been dismissed. The court has followed the appropriate procedures to cancel and dismiss these cases.
He noted that there has been no rule of law in the country over the past 15 years, which has led to the filing of these false, fabricated, and baseless cases driven by political vengeance.
Many of these cases lack any legal foundation and were filed under direct governmental interference.
Of the cases against Tarique Rahman, only one—pertaining to sedition—has been dismissed, while the remaining 18, primarily defamation suits, have been cancelled.
Kayser Kamal further emphasized that the court has dismissed cases lacking any legal evidence.
Additionally, cases where witnesses or plaintiffs have been absent for an extended period and have lost their relevance are also being dismissed.
