Adviser to the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan has stated, "Our country is facing a severe gas crisis. We need 4,000 MMCFD of gas, but we are only receiving 3,000 MMCFD from local and imported sources. To address this crisis, we import around TK 6,000 crore worth of LNG gas each year. Today's visit is to see if we can find more gas in Bhola."
"By 2025, five new wells will be drilled, and by 2028, a total of 14 new wells, making 19 in total, will be excavated in Bhola. The responsibility for drilling these wells will be awarded through open tender," the adviser further added.
He made these remarks during his visit to the Ilisha gas field in Bhola on Saturday afternoon.
According to the adviser, the gas discovered in Bhola is being used for commercial purposes. There are plans to establish more factories using this gas.
He also talked about the importance of the utilization of Bhola's gas. However, due to the severe gas crisis nationwide, the government is not currently considering residential connections in Bhola.
At that time, the energy adviser was accompanied by the Energy Secretary, the Chairman of Petrobangla, the District Commissioner of Bhola, and other senior officials.
