Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, stated that the foundation of national unity will be the People's Revolution of '24.
He urged that no party, including theirs, should contemplate diverging from the spirit of this revolution.
Those who do so will inevitably tread the path of authoritarianism, which will ultimately lead to severe consequences.
He made these remarks on Friday morning while addressing a Rukon conference as the chief guest, organized by the Gazipur District branch of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at a convention center in Gazipur.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “I caution my party as well as all political parties. Let us not stand against the spirit of the people. We must stand firmly with the people. If there is a rightful demand from the people, we should not try to sidestep it or show any audacity to ignore it. However, if any specific faction attempts to deceive the nation under the guise of the people, we must remain united to resist them; there will be no compromise in this matter.”
He further noted that during the July-August movement, those who sacrificed their lives, our beloved sons and daughters, voiced a very powerful slogan, "We want justice."
In a society where justice is upheld, he asserted, there is no place for embezzling resources or laundering them abroad, nor can rampant corruption and bribery thrive.
Reflecting on past government, he recalled that even the Finance Minister once suggested renaming bribes as "speed money" - a disgraceful attempt to normalize bribery!
Another minister went so far as to say, "Take bribes in my ministry, but take a little less."
He emphasized that, at the time, we had a peculiar parliament and government that did not serve the people; public funds were squandered on glorifying individuals rather than advancing the public good.
The conference was presided over by Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, Ameer of the Gazipur District branch of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
Former Gazipur District Ameer Abul Hashem Khan, Gazipur Metropolitan Ameer Muhammad Jamal Uddin, and other leaders also addressed the gathering.
Alongside the members (Rukon) of Gazipur District Jamaat, other prominent leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami were present at the event.
