A total of 15,029,836 Smart National Identity Cards (NID) have been printed and sent to field offices for distribution, but they have not been distributed yet.
This information has been confirmed by sources within the Election Commission (EC).
According to the data, 81,436,095 smart cards have been printed, of which 66,406,259 have been distributed, while 15,029,836 cards are yet to be distributed.
The EC distributed the cards through its 10 regional offices.
The breakdown of undistributed cards by region is as follows: Barishal region: 848,244, Chattogram region: 1,259,620, Cumilla region: 1,947,735, Dhaka region: 3,773,165, Faridpur region: 673,041, Khulna region: 1,449,670, Mymensingh region: 1,708,691, Rajshahi region: 1,150,600, Rangpur region: 1,389,593 and Sylhet region: 839,477 smart cards remain undistributed.
EC officials have stated that a decision has been made to expedite the distribution of these undistributed smart cards.
EC Secretary Shafiul Azim has directed field officers to expedite the distribution of smart cards recently.
