The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has announced that all secondary schools must bring back the separate groups for science, humanities, and business studies for Classes IX and X, starting in 2025. This directive was issued on Wednesday by Assistant Director SM Ziaul Haider Henri.
Previously, the Awami League government had removed these groups as part of a new curriculum introduced in 2012. A recent circular from the education ministry confirmed that students entering ninth grade in 2025 will again have these options, reports The Business Standard.
According to the circular, the science, humanities, and business studies streams will continue for students moving to Class X in 2025, who will take their Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams in 2026. Current students will receive updated textbooks based on the 2012 curriculum.
To help students complete their studies in one year, a simplified syllabus will be created for these textbooks, with teaching and assessment methods following the 2012 guidelines.
Students entering ninth grade in 2025 will also receive revised textbooks, allowing them to complete the syllabus over two years, in Classes IX and X, with SSC exams planned for 2027. A shorter syllabus for Class X will ensure that students can finish their learning within one academic year.
