Former Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has questioned about the theft and harassment at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) despite having a tight security system.
He said close circuit cameras have been installed at the HSIA to stop theft, electronic gates have been installed and a separate monitoring cell has been formed to stop theft of belongings of the expatriates and harassment of the passengers.
Dr Momen blamed people concerned for not stopping theft and passenger harassment at the Dhaka airport. He said the reluctance of the airport authority has increased the tendency of passenger harassment. This is now an important issue.
The former minister made the remarks while speaking to Bangladesh Pratidin on Saturday.
Momen said the situation is not improved although Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken zero tolerance policy in this regard.
All officials of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport will have to submit their wealth statements to stop mismanagement at the airport, he added.
