The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh has cautioned prospective students against enrolling in eight private universities due to irregularities and legal issues.
In a notice signed by Sultan Mahmud Bhuiyan, Director of the Private University Division, UGC stated that some of these institutions are operating educational programs illegally, while others have had their admission processes halted. The UGC clarified it would not be responsible for any legal complications or fraud faced by students enrolling in these universities.
The notice highlighted that, under the Private Universities Act, 2010, 115 private universities are officially approved in Bangladesh, with 106 currently conducting educational programs. A list of universities facing various issues, including lawsuits, has been published by the UGC, and updated information is available on its website.
