Flooding in eight Malaysian states has worsened, displacing nearly 100,000 people as of Friday afternoon. Kelantan remains the hardest-hit state, with over 65,000 evacuees taking shelter in 244 relief centres across 10 districts, Malay Mail reports on Friday.
Pasir Mas, the worst-affected district in Kelantan, has recorded over 22,000 evacuees. Several major rivers, including Sungai Lanas and Sungai Kelantan, have exceeded danger levels, contributing to the escalating crisis.
Terengganu is also severely impacted, with 22,500 evacuees spread across 228 centres, a notable increase from earlier in the day. The Besut district alone has over 10,000 evacuees. Water levels in several rivers have surpassed danger thresholds, and 36 roads have been closed.
Other affected states include Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Melaka, Johor, and Perlis, with thousands more displaced by rising floodwaters. In total, three fatalities have been reported: two in Kelantan and one in Terengganu. Authorities are urging caution, as rivers continue to rise, and emergency measures are in place to assist affected communities.
