Five-time Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) champions Bashundhara Kings made a flying start in the 10-team Bashundhara Group BPL 2024-25 as they thrashed Chittagong Abahani Ltd by 7-0 goals in their den at the Bashundhara Kings Arena on Friday.
Kings, who suffered a big blow during their maiden campaign in the AFC Challenge League (ACL) 2024-25 in October-November in Bhutan, started the ongoing domestic season 2024-25 on a positive note after beating Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd by 3-1 goals in the single-leg match of the curtain-raising tournament -- Bangladesh 2.0 Challenge Cup 2024-25, Powered by Bashundhara Group -- at the same venue on 22 November.
On Friday, French forward Jared Khasa scored two in the 3rd and 39th minutes, forward Rakib Hossain scored two in the 73rd and 84th minutes while forward Foysal Ahmed Fahim, Brazilian midfielder Miguel Figueira and forward Mojibor Rahman Jony netted one each in the 25th, 29th and 70th minutes respectively.
Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) senior vice president and Professional League Management Committee (PLMC) chairman Imrul Hassan formerly inaugurated the league as the chief guest.
“We want more fans and spectators on the field. We have a plan to arrange lottery-gifts for the fans and spectators in all the BPL venues from the next round of the league,” Imrul told the reporters.
