Daily Prothom Alo journalist Samsuzzaman Shams was freed from Keraniganj Central Jail on bail on Monday.
Subhash Kumar Ghosh, Jail Super of Keraniganj Central Jail, said, “We received the bail order around 4 pm and he walked out of jail around 6:22 pm.”
Family members of Shams received him from the jail gate.
Earlier in the day, Samsuzzaman Shams got bail in a case filed under Digital Security Act.
Dhaka Chief Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Asaduzzaman Nur granted the bail on Monday.
On 29 March, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) men in plainclothes picked up Shamsuzzaman from his residence in the Ambagan area, adjacent to Jahangirnagar University, around 4:30 am.
The same day, a Jubo League leader filed a DSA case against Shams, accusing him of publishing a "false and fabricated report" on the Prothom Alo website.
Later he was sent to jail by a Dhaka court after 35 hours of picking him up from Savar’s house.
Before this, he was produced in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court of Dhaka at around 10:30 am on Thursday last.
The bail application was heard there. After rejecting the bail application, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain of the CMM Court of Dhaka ordered to send Shamsuzzaman to jail.
Then on the same day around 3:30 pm, he was taken to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj by a prison van. From there, he was taken to Kashimpur Central Jail Part-1 in Gazipur.
