Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 13 gold bars from shoes left by a smuggler who escaped arrest at the Fulbari border in Chuadanga on Thursday.
The estimated value of the gold bars weighing around 1.5 grams is around Tk 1 crore.
The smuggler who left the gold bars was identified as Mikail Hossain, son of Azmat Ali of Fulbari village under Darshana Upazila.
Lt Col Shah Md Ishtiaq, commander of BGB-6, said forces took a strategic position near sub-pillar 113 of pillar 84 at the border. They chased motorcyclist Mikail who fled the spot leaving the motorcycle and shoes filled with gold bars.
A case was lodged in this regard with Darshana Police Station.
