Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has emphasized a work-friendly environment for the workers besides making skilled manpower to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to face global challenges.
The foreign minister was speaking at a national seminar on ‘Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work: Bangladesh’s 50-year journey with the ILO’ held at the Foreign Service Academy on Saturday.
Economic Relations Division Secretary Sharifa Khan presented the keynote paper in the seminar.
The foreign minister said Bangladesh’s labour market has been expanded by the farsighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He also stressed on necessary education and training to increase the skills and quality of Bangladeshi workers abroad.
ILO’s Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific Chihoko Asada-Miyakawa said ILO will continue to support the government with the application of ratified conventions.
Senior Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division Secretary Mainul Kabir, Labour and Employment Secretary Ehsan-E-Elahi, Worker’s Education Chairman of the National Co-ordination Committee Shamim Ara, and high officials of the concerned ministries were present in the seminar.
