Ruling Awami League and its associate organisations are passing busy days to hold the councils as most of the committees have already expired. The councils from central to grassroots levels will be held from October next and will be continued for three months.
More than 20 district Awami League units have already announced the date of the council. Party leaders and activists are showing their zeal and interest ahead of these councils. Many aspirants have already started going door to door to the top leaders and including the central office to get a post in the new committee.
The council of the Awami League central committee is scheduled to be held in December next. The last council of the ruling party was held on December 20 and 21 in 2019. According to the party constitution, the tenure of the current committee will expire on December 23, 2022.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already instructed leaders and activists to take preparation to hold the council. He also directed to hold the councils of the expired district and associate organisations. The processes are underway to implement the instruction of the party chief.
Several high-ups of the party said works are going on to amend the party’s constitution and declaration ahead of the upcoming council in December.
Awami League Presidium Member and Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton told Bangladesh Pratidin that the councils of districts and upazilas are going on as pre-preparation for the central council. The councils of the expired committees of the associate organisations will also end within November.
He said, after returning home from the UNGA, party president Sheikh Hasina might call the meeting of the central executive committee. The final date of the central council will be fixed at the meeting.
Many former Chhatra League leaders and even senior Awami League leaders have been visiting the party’s central office and Awami League president’s Dhanmondi political office daily.
Many of them want a post in the central Awami League and many want the top posts of the associate organisations.
Jahangir Kabir Nanak, presidium member of the Awami League, said Awami League and its all associate bodies are now council oriented. Party’s central council will be held after the completion of all district and upazila councils and councils of the associate organisations within December.
