A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck Gotri in Jagannath Rural Municipality, Bajura, early Saturday, causing panic among residents, according to a ‘Nepal News’ report.
Dr. Lokbijay Adhikari, senior seismologist at the National Seismology and Research Center in Lainchaur, confirmed the tremor occurred at 4:14 a.m. Saturday.
The quake prompted residents in Martadi, the district headquarters, to rush outdoors in fear, with many still anxious about potential aftershocks. No immediate reports of damage have been confirmed.
Adhikari noted that quakes above magnitude 5 on the Richter scale are classified as moderate.
This follows a series of tremors in Nepal earlier in the week, including a 4.7 magnitude earthquake in Manang on Thursday and two consecutive quakes centered in Bajhang on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Nepal’s seismology experts continue to monitor the situation as the region remains on high alert.
