The government has no plans to increase fuel prices at present, said State Minister for Power and Energy Anindya Islam Amit on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat, Amit said that there is currently no fuel crisis in the country, and the minor supply concerns observed in March are expected to be resolved soon.
He added that the Indian government has been informally requested to increase oil exports. “Although petrol and octane production in Bangladesh is not entirely dependent on imports, some regions have seen long queues at fuel stations without any logical reason,” he said. Amit also noted that activities by unscrupulous groups attempting to exploit the situation have been controlled and capped.
“Keeping in mind the potential for rising prices, any future decisions will be made in consultation with all stakeholders to avoid public hardship,” he said.
To support ride-sharing services, the government has decided to supply 5 liters of fuel per day to drivers, starting from today, Amit added.
The minister’s remarks come amid growing public concern over fuel availability and prices, assuring citizens that the government is monitoring the situation closely.
