Bangladesh Shadharon Nagorik Shamaj on Saturday urged all stakeholders to remain vigilant and prevent any artificial fuel shortage in the country amid the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
In a statement, the platform’s convener Mohiuddin Ahmed called on the public not to panic or spread rumours regarding global fuel supply uncertainties stemming from the regional conflict.
The organisation warned that a dishonest group of traders could attempt to create an artificial crisis in the domestic market by using the international situation as a pretext.
It also cautioned that instability in fuel supply management could arise from unplanned or incorrect decisions by state energy agencies such as Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation and Petrobangla.
However, the statement said information from various sources indicates that Bangladesh currently holds adequate fuel reserves.
The platform therefore urged all concerned to refrain from spreading rumours or creating unnecessary panic that could alarm the public.
It also called on relevant government authorities to ensure transparency in fuel supply and stock management, strengthen market monitoring, and take strict action against dishonest traders to prevent any artificial crisis.
Bangladesh Shadharon Nagorik Shamaj further urged all stakeholders to act responsibly to safeguard the country’s energy security and protect public interests.
