The government has appointed Md Mostaqur Rahman, FCMA, as the new governor of Bangladesh Bank for a four-year term.
According to a notification issued today by the Financial Institutions Division under the Ministry of Finance, the appointment was made in accordance with Section 10(5) of the Bangladesh Bank Order, 1972 (President’s Order No. 127 of 1972).
The notification states that Rahman will serve as governor for four years from the date of his joining, subject to severing all professional ties with other institutions and organisations.
During his tenure, he will receive salary, allowances and other benefits from Bangladesh Bank as per the terms of a contract to be executed with the government. Other conditions of his appointment will also be determined under that agreement.
The order, issued in the public interest, takes immediate effect.
The notification was signed by Mohammad Abraoul Hasan Majumder, Deputy Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division, by order of the President.
In a separate notification, the government cancelled the remaining tenure of outgoing governor Ahsan H Mansur.
