The government has decided to keep all CNG filling stations across the country closed for six hours daily during Ramadan to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to power plants amid rising demand.
The Department of Energy and Mineral Resources announced the decision in a notification issued on Friday.
According to the notification, CNG stations nationwide will remain closed from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm every day from the first day of Ramadan until March 14. The measure aims to address low gas pressure and prioritize gas supply for electricity generation.
However, in view of increased passenger movement ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, CNG stations will operate 24 hours a day from March 15 to March 25 to meet higher transport and fuel demand.
From March 26, the previous schedule will resume, under which CNG stations will remain closed daily from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
