Minister for Commerce, Industry, and Textiles Khandaker Abdul Muktadir on Thursday said one of the ministry’s key responsibilities is to ensure stable prices of essential commodities, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, reports BSS.
“During Ramadan, the importance of this responsibility increases. When we assumed office, there was little time to prepare for the month. The positive news is that our food stock is sufficient to maintain market price stability,” Muktadir said while exchanging greetings with government officials and BNP leaders and activists at Sylhet Osmani International Airport.
Responding to questions about development plans for Sylhet, the minister said he has outlined initiatives in his election campaign and manifesto aimed at improving living standards.
“I want to implement projects that directly benefit the people of Sylhet, including job creation, expansion of IT-related professions, and the establishment of an AI centre,” Muktadir said.
He emphasized that enhancing global competitiveness is a priority, adding that the government will work diligently over the next five years to advance Bangladesh’s position internationally.
Regarding job creation at Sylhet’s IT park, Muktadir highlighted the importance of attracting investment. “To do this, we must ensure a supportive environment, including improved communication infrastructure, reduced red tape, and political stability,” he said.
He also noted that special policy support is being developed for expatriate and local investors in Sylhet, and that implementation of these measures will be visible soon.
Sylhet lawmaker MA Malik, Divisional Commissioner Khan Md Reza-un-Nabi, Sylhet Range DIG Md Mushfequr Rahman, Deputy Commissioner Md Sarwar Alam, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Quddus Chowdhury, and acting president of Sylhet City BNP were among those present.
