The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) has increased gold prices again in the domestic market, citing a rise in the price of pure gold.
The new rates came into effect at 10am on Saturday.
According to Bajus, the price of 22-carat gold has been set at Tk262,090 per bhori, up by Tk7,640 from Tk254,450 on Friday. The price of 21-carat gold has been fixed at Tk250,192 per bhori.
In a statement, Bajus said the decision was taken unanimously at an emergency meeting of its Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring at 9:30am on Saturday after reviewing the overall market situation.
Under the new rates, the price of 22-carat (hallmarked) gold ornaments has been set at Tk22,470 per gram, while 21-carat (hallmarked) gold ornaments will cost Tk21,450 per gram. The price of 18-carat (hallmarked) gold ornaments has been fixed at Tk41,838 per gram and traditional gold ornaments at Tk41,504 per gram.
For silver ornaments, the price of 22-carat silver has been set at Tk545 per gram, 21-carat silver at Tk520 per gram, 18-carat silver at Tk445 per gram and traditional silver at Tk335 per gram.
Bajus said the revised prices will remain effective at all jewellery shops across the country until further notice. A 5% VAT, as set by the government, will be added to the fixed prices.
