The country's remittance inflow surged 45.1 percent year-on-year, reaching US$3.17 billion in January, marking the third highest monthly remittance in the country’s history.
According to Bangladesh Bank (BB) data, the country had received US$2.19 billion in remittances during the same month last year. The highest monthly inflow was US$3.29 billion in March of fiscal year 2024-25, followed by US$3.23 billion in December 2025.
During the July–January period of the current 2025-26 fiscal year, expatriate Bangladeshis sent US$19.44 billion in remittances, up from US$15.96 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year.
Speaking to BSS, a senior official of Bangladesh Bank said that the central bank has implemented various measures to boost remittances, aimed at easing the foreign exchange crisis and increasing foreign reserves.
“These initiatives have had a positive impact on expatriate earnings and the flow of remittances into the country,” the official added.
