Jewellers lowered the price of gold by Tk1,458 to Tk2,22,724 per bhori (11.664 grammes) on Thursday, the first trading day of the new year.
The Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring of the Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) made the decision at a meeting, following a drop in the price of pure gold in the local market.
This fresh cut comes just a day after the price of the precious yellow metal fell to Tk2,24,182 per bhori.
On 29 December, gold reached an all-time high of Tk2,29,431 per bhori in the country.
As per the new decision, the price of 22-carat gold will now be Tk19,095 per gramme, and 21-carat Tk18,230 per gramme, read a press release signed by the standing committee chairman, Dewan Aminul Islam Shahin.
The price of 18-carat gold has been fixed at Tk15,625 a gramme, while that of traditional gold at Tk13,015 per gramme.
New tariffs would come into effect on Friday, read the release.
However, BAJUS also lowered the prices of silver.
The price of 22-carat silver is now Tk475 per gramme, 21-carat Tk455, 18-carat Tk390, and traditional one is Tk290 per gramme.
Buyers will also have to pay an additional 5% VAT set by the government, along with a minimum 6% making charge fixed by BAJUS. The making charge may vary depending on design and quality, the release added.
