All scheduled banks across the country are closed today, Wednesday, following the death of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
Bangladesh Bank announced the closure on Tuesday after the government declared a one-day public holiday through an executive order.
In a circular signed by Bangladesh Bank Director (Department of Off-site Supervision) Gazi Md. Mahfuzul Islam, the central bank said all scheduled banks operating in Bangladesh will remain closed on Wednesday, December 31.
However, banks may keep branches or departments related to annual or half-yearly account closing for 2025 open at their own discretion.
