Bangladeshi entrepreneurs and businesses can now sell their products directly on major global e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, eBay, Alibaba, Flipkart, and Etsy.
Bangladesh Bank has authorised exporters to conduct direct sales abroad through platforms like Amazon and eBay.
The central bank issued a circular on Monday (24 November) through its Foreign Exchange Policy Department, opening new opportunities for local exporters to access popular international online marketplaces.
To expand participation in online-based global markets, Bangladesh Bank introduced a new policy aimed at simplifying cross-border e-commerce. Under the framework, exports are permitted through a Business-to-Business-to-Consumer (B2B2C) model.
According to the circular, authorised dealer (AD) banks can now process export transactions where a foreign consignee acts as an intermediary platform or marketplace rather than the final buyer. This allows Bangladeshi products to be exported through Amazon, eBay, Alibaba, Etsy, or any international subsidiary or third-party warehouse.
Exporters must submit proof of registration with the relevant global platform or warehouse to the AD bank. Since traditional sales contracts are often absent under the B2B2C structure, exporters may declare the fair value of goods based on a pro forma invoice.
Additionally, if the consignee functions solely as a service provider, AD banks may accept shipping documents issued in the consignee’s name.
This new policy is expected to significantly enhance the participation of Bangladeshi businesses in global e-commerce and streamline access to international markets.
