Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed said market players and regulators are responsible for the instability of the stock markets.
He made the observation while inaugurating the 6th edition of ‘Banking Almanac’ at the CIRDAP International Conference Centre in the capital on Saturday morning.
“BBS (Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics) has been asked to publish the facts. There is no manipulation. The condition of our stock markets is the same as that of as banking and financial sectors. Investors chant the slogan for the removal of the BSEC chairman for a share price fall. You (investors) are buying Z category shares happily which have no existence. These shares will be used as waste paper a few days later. For this reason, investment education is necessary. I don’t blame investors (small). Stock markets players and regulators have huge responsibilities.”
The adviser emphasized more publicity to raise awareness about the stock market investment.
Banking Almanac board of directors’ acting chairman and former adviser to the caretaker government, renowned economist Hossain Zillur Rahman presided over the function while Finance Secretary Dr Md Khairuzzaman Mozumder, Bangladesh Bank's Deputy Governor Nurun Nahar, and Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB) and Dhaka Bank Chairman Abdul Hai Sarkar addressed the function as special guests.
‘Banking Almanac’ executive editor Syed Ziauddin Ahmed delivered the welcome speech.
