The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has brought some relief to residents of Dhaka, forecasting the possibility of rain or temporary gusty winds accompanied by thunderstorms in the capital and surrounding areas following an extended spell of intense heat.
In a forecast issued at 7:00am on Sunday by the Storm Warning Centre, covering the following six hours, the department said the sky over Dhaka and nearby regions may remain partly cloudy to temporarily overcast, with a chance of rain or thunderstorm activity in some areas.
It further stated that winds may blow from the south or south-west at speeds of 10 to 15 kilometres per hour. Daytime temperatures are also expected to decrease slightly.
According to the Meteorological Department, at 6:00am today, the temperature in Dhaka stood at 26.2°C with relative humidity at 71 percent. The maximum temperature recorded yesterday was 36.5°C, while today’s minimum temperature was 26.1°C. No rainfall was recorded in the past 24 hours.
The sun sets at 6:25pm today and is expected to rise at 5:27am tomorrow in Dhaka.
