Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) of Dhaka University (DU) unit has organised an open discussion on human rights in Bangladesh and the role of student society on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day.
The discussion was held in front of the Arts building of DU on Tuesday evening.
In the discussion, the speakers highlighted various incidents of human rights violations during the Awami League’s rule, including abductions and killings and expressed their commitment to fight for human rights in future.
Rakibul Islam Rakib, JCD DU unit president, said that the JCD, student wing of BNP, has been active on the street against all oppressive and repressive activities of the ousted Awami League government over the last 15 years.
On the DU campus, Chhatra Dal men faced hundreds of attacks from the Chhatra League, student wing of Awami League, he said.
The JCD leaders and activists of the DU unit were severely tortured and many of them have become disabled, and many could not complete their education, Rakib said.
“We demand punishment of the attackers through proper justice," he added.
