Repeated delays of Grand Theft Auto VI have done little to shake analyst confidence, with several saying the new November 2026 release date could help Take-Two Interactive achieve a larger and more profitable launch, reports Reuters.
The videogame publisher on Friday pushed the title’s release to November 19, 2026, from its previous target of May 26, marking the second public delay for the industry’s most anticipated game. Take-Two shares fell about 6% following the announcement.
While fans expressed frustration online, analysts said the shift positions GTA VI to capitalize on the lucrative holiday shopping season, when console and software sales typically peak. The game is expected to generate billions of dollars within weeks of release.
“Releasing it closer to the holiday season allows for more opportunities to bundle with the tail end of current-gen consoles,” said Joost van Dreunen, a games industry professor at NYU’s Stern School of Business. “That makes it more valuable to Take-Two because of the marketing dollars console makers will be willing to invest.”
Brokerage firm Jefferies said the delay would not materially affect its overall sales forecasts for Take-Two, noting that revenue expectations would merely shift into later quarters. “We’ll simply move our estimates forward two quarters,” the firm said.
Delays have become increasingly common across the videogame industry as studios face longer development cycles, rising costs, and intense pressure from players demanding polished, bug-free launches.
“They need the game to be great—and more time makes that more likely,” said Michael Pachter, managing director of strategic planning at Wedbush Securities.
The latest postponement sparked debate among gamers about whether Take-Two and its developer, Rockstar Games, will meet the new November deadline, given Rockstar’s history of repeated delays.
“I was cautiously optimistic it would hit the May date but totally expected it to slip to late 2026. Question is… does it slip to 2027?” one user wrote on Reddit.
Online communities have turned the long wait into a running joke, with memes speculating about what might happen before the game finally releases—ranging from OpenAI unveiling GPT-6 to Bitcoin reaching $1 million or Rihanna dropping a new album.
Despite the impatience, many fans expressed continued trust in Rockstar, whose portfolio includes critical and commercial hits like the Red Dead Redemption series.
“Whatever date is needed to yield the best possible project is the date it should be released,” another Reddit user wrote.
