Television broadcasts of both local and international channels that depend on Bangladesh Satellite-1 may experience interruptions totaling 81 minutes between September 29 and October 6, caused by a natural space event known as a sun outage.
Omar Haider, public relations spokesperson of Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL), confirmed the information in a statement issued on Wednesday.
Sun outage is a common astronomical phenomenon for geostationary satellites, occurring twice a year. As a result, there is a possibility of temporary disruption in satellite-based broadcast operations. In the case of Bangladesh Satellite-1, broadcast operations may face disruptions for a certain period of time each day from 29 September to 6 October, according to the statement.
According to BSCL, On September 29, the disruption may last three minutes between 9:35 am and 9:38 am. On September 30, it may last nine minutes between 9:32 am and 9:41 am.
On October 1, the outage is expected to continue for 12 minutes between 9:30 am and 9:42 am. On October 2 and 3, the disruption may extend 13 minutes between 9:29 am and 9:42 am.
On October 4, the interruption is expected to last 12 minutes between 9:29 am and 9:41 am. On October 5, it may continue for 11 minutes between 9:29 am and 9:40 am.
On the final day, October 6, the disruption may last eight minutes between 9:30 am and 9:38 am.
The notice further said that BSCL will closely monitor sun outage.
BSCL is currently providing broadcasting and telecommunication services to various domestic and international organisations using Bangladesh Satellite-1 (BS-1).
