After years of requests, WhatsApp is finally hinting at the launch of a dedicated app for iPad. The official WhatsApp account recently responded to a user's post on X (formerly Twitter) with an “eyes” emoji, suggesting that iPad users may soon get the long-awaited app.
A version of the app has been in beta testing for nearly two years through Apple’s TestFlight program. Although the beta program is currently full, those who have tested it say the app works smoothly, which means WhatsApp’s parent company, Meta, is carefully preparing for a stable release, reports Times of India.
The iPad version is expected to work independently from an iPhone, similar to WhatsApp’s desktop and web versions. This means users can send and receive messages even when their phone isn’t connected to the internet, with all messages remaining end-to-end encrypted. The app is also expected to be designed specifically for the iPad’s larger screen, making it easier to use than the web or iPhone versions.
While WhatsApp hasn’t shared a release date yet, the recent teaser and long beta testing hint that the iPad app might launch soon.
