WhatsApp, the world’s most widely used messaging platform with over 3.5 billion users, is once again upgrading its feature set to enhance user interaction.
The app is now testing a long-requested feature: the ability to reshare and forward status updates.
The update was first spotted by WABetaInfo, a platform that tracks upcoming WhatsApp features. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), WABetaInfo revealed that the feature is available in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.16.16. This update, while still in the early stages of development, reflects WhatsApp's increasing emphasis on content control and personalization.
This new tool will allow users to forward or reshare status updates from their contacts. Importantly, WhatsApp is also giving users the option to control whether their status updates can be shared by others — a privacy-first move welcomed by many. We will introduce a toggle switch in the settings, allowing users to choose whether to make their status reshareable.
The update builds on earlier additions to the status feature, including the ability to add music, photos, videos, and links. This latest move is expected to be especially useful for content creators and users who frequently share updates with friends and family.
Alongside this, WhatsApp is also working on an AI-powered custom chat wallpaper feature. Powered by Meta AI, this upcoming update will allow users to design their own unique chat backgrounds. Although the feature is still in development, users can expect its release soon.
With these additions, WhatsApp continues to evolve beyond simple messaging, creating a more dynamic, personalized, and interactive platform for its global user base.
