The risk of hacking, data theft, and malware attacks on WhatsApp is growing daily. A new tactic used by hackers involves hijacking accounts through OTP codes. Hackers send a message posing as someone you know, claiming, "An OTP has been sent to your number by mistake, please forward it." Once you forward the OTP, hackers gain complete control of your WhatsApp account.
If you notice a suspicious OTP or SMS, find yourself suddenly logged out of WhatsApp, receive strange messages from a friend’s account, or are unable to access your WhatsApp, these could be signs that your account has been hacked.
To protect yourself, always enable two-step verification on WhatsApp, and regularly check your linked devices. If you receive a suspicious message, confirm it directly with the sender. Make sure to update your privacy settings and never share your OTP with anyone. Avoid clicking links from unknown numbers, and be cautious about unknown contacts adding you to groups.
Stay cautious and protect your WhatsApp account before it’s too late. Stay safe!
