Unleash Sword has become the champion of ‘Honor of Kings’ South Asia by defeating teams from Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka. With this victory, the team has secured a place in the Honor of Kings Major East Spring tournament as the first team in the country's history. Which is a new milestone for Bangladesh in the international eSports arena.
The captain of the team, Tahmid Zaki, whose in-game name is US.Tahmid; said that their goal is to represent Bangladesh's name with honor in the world court. Recently, he answered several questions in an interview. There, Tahmid Zaki talked about the potential and future of the eSports industry in Bangladesh. He also told the stories behind the success of Honor of Kings South Asia champion Unleash Sword.
How does it feel to be the champion?
Tahmid Zaki: We are all very happy. But we don't want to spoil that happiness for now. Our goal is to represent Bangladesh's name with honor in front of the world. We have just started our journey by becoming the champions of Honor of Kings South Asia. In Sha Allah, we will proudly present Bangladesh to the world.
Unleash Sword will be the first team from Bangladesh to go to the international level tournament of Honor of Kings.. Ever thought about it?
Tahmid Zaki: Yes! Our goal was to become the champions of South Asia and present Bangladesh's name to the world.
What was your best moment in this tournament?
Tahmid Zaki: Honestly, I was very excited because it was a do or die situation in the final. But I am not satisfied with the last moment of the match.
Which opponent was the most difficult to play against?
Tahmid Zaki: DRS Gaming, a team from Nepal. It is very difficult to beat them.
How do you make your strategy?
Before the game, we discuss among ourselves. Various tactics are made about the opposing team.
What are the weaknesses and strengths of your team?
Tahmid Zaki: If we talk about weaknesses, then I will say - we have gone through a very difficult time. Because we had no coach and no sponsors. Due to which our players had to study the tactics and weaknesses of the opposing team along with playing. A lot of time was wasted in this.
And if the strength is; our bonding. Our understanding among ourselves is so good that it easily makes a difference with other teams. Even in bad times, we did not give up. We discussed how to do better.
How do you practice? What is your routine?
Tahmid Zaki: We practice the game Honor of Kings regularly from 10 pm to 2 am. At this time, all the players of our team are present. Apart from that, whoever is free practices.
Do you play any other games?
Tahmid Zaki: Yes! We used to play other games. Mostly 5 vs 5 games. Notable among them are: Heroes Evolved, Mobile Legends and Arena of Valor. But currently we are only playing Honor of Kings.
How is your life outside of the game Honor of Kings?
Tahmid Zaki: We are all still students. Our life outside of the game is spent in university classes and studies.
Who is your favorite player?
Tahmid Zaki: There is no one favorite player.
Do you see eSports as a profession?
Tahmid Zaki: We want to consider eSports as a profession. But we are in a dilemma because there are not many opportunities for development in this industry in Bangladesh. Hopefully, we will get more opportunities as eSports players in the future. If something like that happens, not only us, but many others will come and choose eSports as a profession.
How do you see the future of eSports in Bangladesh?
Tahmid Zaki: It depends entirely on investment. There are many good eSports players in Bangladesh. But due to lack of sufficient income opportunities, many are losing interest in developing their skills. If there is investment in eSports like cricket and football, then maybe the future will be bright.
Thank you for giving us your time.
Tahmid Zaki: Thank you too.
