NASA will offer live coverage of the upcoming launch and docking of the Roscosmos Progress 91 spacecraft, which is set to deliver essential supplies to the International Space Station (ISS). The uncrewed spacecraft will carry approximately three tons of food, fuel, and other critical provisions for the ISS crew, says a press release.
Scheduled to launch at 4:24 p.m. EST on Thursday, February 27 (2:24 a.m. Baikonur time, Friday, February 28), the Progress 91 spacecraft will take off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan aboard a Soyuz rocket. NASA will begin live coverage of the launch at 4 p.m. on NASA+.
After a two-day journey in orbit, Progress 91 will autonomously dock to the aft port of the Zvezda service module on the space station at 6:03 p.m. EST on Saturday, March 1. NASA's coverage of the rendezvous and docking will begin at 5:15 p.m. on NASA+.
Once docked, the spacecraft will remain attached to the station for approximately six months before departing for re-entry to dispose of trash.
The ISS has served as a hub for groundbreaking scientific research and technological advancement. Over the past 24 years, NASA has maintained a continuous human presence in space, helping astronauts learn how to live and work in the unique environment of space for extended periods. This ongoing effort supports future missions to the Moon under NASA's Artemis program and, eventually, human exploration of Mars.
Did you know? The ISS orbits Earth at around 17,500 miles per hour, completing a full circle around the planet roughly every 90 minutes.
