State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak on Thursday said Sheikh Russel Digital Lab will be established at all residential halls in Dhaka University (DU) with high speed internet facility.
He made the announcement while addressing a 'Building of Smart Bangladesh, Smart Campus' workshop and laptop distribution programme as chief speaker at DU Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) in the capital, said a press release.
DU unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) organized the function while Awami League (AL) Presidium Member Jahangir Kabir Nanak addressed it virtually as the chief guest.
Noting that Sheikh Kamal Business Incubation Center will be established at all universities across the country, Palak said Taka 1 crore will be given as innovation fund to 'Smart Campus'.
"Competitions will be arranged among universities on building 'Smart Campus'. Universities will submit various projects and presentations on developing green, clean and safe campuses. The university, which will secure first position in the contest, will be given Taka 1 crore," he added.
Besides, more 50 selected universities will be given Taka 10 lakh from the ICT Division, Palak said.
He also said that the ICT Division will cooperate in the programme 'Her Creation' launched by the Chhatra League to develop women entrepreneurs.
Speaking on the occasion, Nanak said Bangladesh in the coming days will be a 'Smart Bangladesh' while digital connectivity will serve as the foundation for 'Smart citizens', 'Smart economy' and 'Smart society'.
He called upon the BCL leaders and activists to develop the Dhaka University as a smart model campus.
BCL Central President Saddam Hossain and General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif and DU BCL General Secretary Tanveer Hasan Saikat also spoke at the function with DU BCL President Mazharul Kabir Shayan in the chair.
Later, Palak distributed laptops among presidents and general secretaries of BCL hall units of DU as 'gift of Sajeeb Wazed Joy, a tool to conquer the world'.
