In the series-deciding match against the West Indies, Bangladesh batted first in Mirpur on Thursday and posted a total of 296 runs.
West Indies were bundled out for 117 in the third ODI, as Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s team sealed the series with a commanding 179-run victory — Bangladesh’s second-largest win in terms of runs in ODI history.
With this victory, Bangladesh clinched the series 2–1. Following the result, West Indies will remain ninth in the ICC ODI rankings, while Bangladesh stay in tenth place. Bangladesh now have 76 points, and West Indies 79.
Chasing the target, the Caribbean side struggled from the very beginning, losing four wickets for just 46 runs. Shai Hope’s team came under further pressure after losing two more wickets in the 19th over, both taken by Rishad Hossain, leaving the score at 63.
West Indies collapsed to 82 for 8, and Rishad claimed his third wicket by trapping Gudakesh Motie lbw. This was Rishad’s 12th wicket in the series — the highest by a Bangladesh spinner in a three-match ODI series. The previous record was held by Arafat Sunny, who took 10 wickets against Zimbabwe in 2014.
Bangladesh’s victory then became only a matter of time, as Akeal Hosein’s 27 merely reduced the margin of defeat.
