Bangladesh have scored a fighting total of 213 runs in the second ODI of the three-match series against the West Indies at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
Young all-rounder Rishad Hossain single-handedly built an innings on a day when others batters failed. His unbeaten 39 off just 14 balls took the team past the 200 mark.
Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first on Tuesday. Batting on a spin-friendly wicket was quite tough. Despite playing well in the beginning, wickets kept falling at regular intervals. When the innings was under pressure, Bangladesh's score stood at 213 for 7 in 50 overs at the end thanks to Rishad's blasty blows.
Bangladesh were 163 for 7 with only 24 balls left to play. It seemed that even 200 runs would be difficult. At that time, Rishad surprised the team with his fearless batting. He remained unbeaten on 39 runs off just 14 balls, hitting 3 sixes and 3 fours. 38 runs came from his bat in the last 13 balls.
Earlier, Soumya Sarkar fought with one side in the beginning of the innings. He scored 45 runs in 89 balls with 3 fours and 1 six, which was the highest score for the team. However, his innings was quite slow.
The opening pair broke in the fifth over. Saif Hasan returned with just 5 runs. Then Towhid Hridoy (12), Nazmul Hossain Shanto (15), Ankan (17), Miraj (11), and Nasum Ahmed (14) returned at regular intervals. It was not possible to extend the innings due to the failure of the middle order.
Nurul Hasan Sohan tried a little. He was also out after playing an innings of 23 runs in 24 balls.
