Bangladesh have made history at the 3rd Asian Youth Games as the Under-18 Girls’ Kabaddi Team secured the country’s first-ever medal in the competition.
The young kabaddi stars defeated Sri Lanka in a thrilling encounter to clinch the bronze medal — marking a momentous milestone for Bangladesh sports.
Bangladesh had previously participated in the first two editions of the Asian Youth Games without any medal success. This time, however, the girls’ kabaddi team ended the long wait through a spirited performance in Bahrain’s Isa Sports City.
In Monday’s match, Bangladesh showed composure and determination against Sri Lanka. They led 25–18 at halftime, maintaining a solid 7-point advantage.
Although the second half saw a fierce contest — with both teams scoring 22 points each — Bangladesh’s early lead proved decisive as they triumphed 47–40 in the end.
The final whistle sparked jubilant celebrations from the players, who proudly made history for their nation.
Despite losing to India, Iran, and Thailand in the group stage, Bangladesh kept their medal hopes alive and rose to the occasion when it mattered most. Their victory over Sri Lanka not only ensured a podium finish but also marked Bangladesh’s first-ever medal in Asian Youth Games history.
