Bashundhara Kings registered their first victory of the Bangladesh Football League (BFL) season at Kings Arena on Monday, bouncing back from a 2-2 draw in their opening match against PWD sporting Club in Gazipur, reports the Daily Sun.
The Kings claimed a 2-1 home win over Fortis FC under the guidance of Argentine Coach Mario Gomez. The match also marked the domestic league debut of English club Sunderland U-21 midfielder of Bangladeshi descent, Cuba Mitchell.
The hosts took an early lead as Brazilian forward Dorielton scored, marking his second consecutive goal in the league. Fortis created several promising opportunities to equalise, but missed a couple of chances.
Goalkeeper Mehedi Hasan Srabon held firm, and Bashundhara went into halftime leading 1-0.
Kings doubled their lead early in the second half. Dorielton missed from a pass by Topu in the 51st minute, but a minute later Faisal Ahmed Fahim received a pass from Rafael Agusto on the left flank, cut past a defender, and delivered a low cross that Fahim tapped into an open net.
Cuba Mitchell made his league debut in the 71st minute, coming on as a substitute. He showed glimpses of his quality in the 79th minute when he unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box, only for Fortis goalkeeper Sujan Pereira to make a fine save.
Fortis reduced the deficit in stoppage time when Okafor scored in the fifth minute of added time, but it was too late to change the outcome. Bashundhara Kings walked off with a hard-fought 2-1 victory, finally securing their first three points of the season.
In another match on the day, PWD Sporting Club earned their first league win by defeating Arambagh 1-0.
