Bangladesh off-spinner Mahedi Hasan said that he does not complicate while bowling in the power play and only worked on making sure that the opponent batters does not manage to score runs easily against him.
The hosts got off to the worst possible start in their chase of 148.
Taskin Ahmed and Mahedi struck with the first ball of their respective overs, scalping Brandon King and the big-wicket of Nicholas Pooran respectively. Johnson Charles smashed two sixes and a four in a 25-run fourth over as the hosts began to claw their way back into the game.
But Mahedi dismissed the threatening Charles before the bowler picked up back-to-back wickets in his third over to put the visitors in cruise control. Andre Fletcher nicked behind trying to play a drive away from his body while Roston Chase gloved a reverse sweep to Litton Das. Things got worse as Gudakesh Motie and Akeal Hosein too were dismissed cheaply as the hosts tottered at 61 for 7 in 12 overs.
“I usually bowl with the new ball and was moving forward accordingly maintain my process. They had right handed batsman and my plan was that I won’t allow them to play easy shots because they are very strong and actually bowled with a plan and by the grace of Allah became success,” said Mahedi.
“It nothing but all about mentality (bowling in the power play) and when a pace bowler bowls in the slog overs what mentality he carries. It’s all about plan and if you can do everything with a plan you are going to get success more or less and I just tried with my process in place,” he said.
Mahedi said that Mirpur and St Kitts wickets are different but added that when he arrived here he was confident as though he did not feature for Bangladesh here during the last T20I World Cup he always felt he could have done well in St Kitts.
Bangladesh had fond memories of the venue, where they defeated Nepal and the Netherlands here during this year's T20 World Cup.
“Look Mirpur and this wicket is different and we practiced two days back the wicket was outstanding and it looked like the wicket will be for 180 to 200 runs and if you have wicket in hand you can score 180 to 200 runs. Yes there is help for pacers and spinners but it’s all about how you plan and bowl to different wicket accordingly by adapting with it,” said Mahedi.
“In the World Cup I did not feature in any of the three matches and I was disappointed because I felt I could have done well in this type of wicket and that give me the confidence and there is thing like this kind of wicket have some help for the spinners. If you plan well the possibility of getting success is higher but everyday will not be the same and there will be ups and down,” he said.
