Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said we have started working for the national elections from the very first day and have all the preparations needed for the national elections.
“We are fully prepared to hold the elections as per the time indicated by the Chief Advisor,” he said.
He said this while talking to reporters at his office in the Election Building in Agargaon of the capital on Tuesday.
Regarding the local government elections, the CEC said, “The indication given by the Chief Advisor for the elections is about the national parliament elections. He did not say anything about the local government elections. Our stakeholders, political parties— all also have talked about the parliamentary elections. They talked about handing over the power from the interim government to the elected government. So we are thinking about the parliamentary elections.”
On the issue of constituencies’ demarcation, he said, “The demarcation of the constituencies will be based on fairness. If there are any irregularities in the demarcation of the past, if any demarcation has been purposefully redrawn in favor of any candidate or to suppress someone, we will definitely look into it. It will not be on the lines of 2001; rather will be based on the current one. We will do it on the basis of fairness.”
He also said, “We will get a new final voter list in two months. After that, we will go to the people to collect information. Many have died, many have been excluded, many foreigners have become voters— we will keep these things in minds. We are recieving information on the duplication of the voters. We will revise the list after verifying it. The vote will be held in the light of that revised list.”
Will you announce the election roadmap— in response to this question from journalists, AMM Nasir Uddin said the chief advisor has announced a deadline and we will move forward accordingly. Are we not thinking of announcing any roadmap publicly? However, we will have our own action plan to work on.
