Bangladesh captain Liton Kumer Das admitted that the upcoming three-match T20 series against the West Indies will be challenging but expressed confidence in his team’s ability to perform strongly.
The series kicks off on Monday at the Arnos Vale Stadium at 6:00 am BST.
The venue has been a happy hunting ground for Bangladesh in the past, as they secured victories over Nepal, and the Netherlands here during this year’s T20 World Cup. However, with the team reeling from a 3-0 defeat in the preceding ODI series, the Tigers are eager to bounce back.
Rain disrupted their final preparations, but Liton dismissed concerns about readiness, pointing to the players’ recent game time and targeted training sessions.
“There are no shortcomings because yesterday we also practised fielding under the lights. Most of the players in this team have played both ODIs and Tests, so they are in touch with the game,” Liton said.
He also noted variations in the pitch conditions compared to those encountered during the T20 World Cup.
“There are differences in the wicket played here in the T20 World Cup when we practiced here yesterday. It’s not a similar wicket. Probably they prepared it in a different way. We haven’t thought about that yet, our team combination. We’ll field the best XI for Bangladesh.”
Liton acknowledged the inherent challenges of the shortest format, particularly in the West Indies’ conditions.
“Usually, T20 matches are challenging for us. Since this will be played on the West Indies’ home ground, it will be a bit tough. We will try to figure out how to overcome this and focus on playing a good series,” he concluded.
