Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina has given direction to the partymen to organize the party strongly for winning the challenge of upcoming national polls. AL is now giving emphasize on making the organization stronger more than doing calculations over the alliance or great alliance.

Hence, the ruling party wants to come on the political field to achieve five main goals. Among the five targets, there are: securing the win of party candidates in the election of five city corporations, mitigate the internal conflicts, selecting the worthy candidate for the upcoming national election, the maximum promotion of the development activities of the government and moving the mass opinion on their side by giving befitting reply of the anti-government propaganda. All of their targets are aimed at forming government for the fourth consecutive times. More than one leader from the policy-making forum of the party disclosed this information to The Bangladesh Pratidin.

AL presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak told The Bangladesh Pratidin, “We were always on with our programmes. The leaders and activists of the party could reach to the mass people with food supply during the Holy Ramadan. For the upcoming election in five city corporations, the responsibilities of campaign will be distributed among the central leaders according to the directions of party President. In addition, we will select competent candidate for the upcoming national polls, give befitting reply to anti-government propaganda and highlight the development activities of the government. Furthermore, we will take prompt steps to mitigate the internal conflict of the party by settling it locally.”

The vote of Gazipur City Corporation will be on May 25, Khulna and Barishal City Corporations on June 12 and Rajshahi and Sylhet City Corporations on June 21.

AL already announced the name of the candidates for upcoming city corporations’ elections. By winning in these elections, AL want to give message that people are with the development of government, prior to the national election.

Regarding it, AL join secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim told The Bangladesh Pratidin, “We’ve begun to work with specific planning. We will make the people aware so that the communal forces and patrons of militants can’t come to power and the country remains in the hand of pro-liberation party. In the executive meetings, yard and road meetings, we will inform about all the developments that were happened in last 14 years. We will show our strong presence in political field and will complete our mission by making the daughter of The Father of The Nation Prime Minister once again.”

It is known that disputes have come to light in Barisal and Gazipur ahead of the city corporations elections. Central leaders have started working to resolve this dispute. Apart from this, party presidium members, joint general secretary, organizational secretary and the central committee and allied organizations will be used in the election campaign in these two cities. In the meantime instructions have been given on what the responsibilities and roles of the leaders will be.

Advocate Afzal Hossain, Barisal divisional in-charge organizing secretary of the party told The Bangladesh Pratidin, "I have already introduced the party candidate for the Barisal city election along with the central leaders. Now the extended meeting of district and metropolitan Awami League will be called. The city corporations’ elections strategy will be determined there.”

He said, "We have brought the work to the end to strengthen the party locally. Awami League President Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed party MPs not to divide into factions ahead of the National Parliament elections. She instructed the current MP and the candidates to work together. In last Eid, most of the MPs visited their respective constituencies and carried out extensive mass communication. The aspiring candidates of the party were not far behind. The party president has always been saying that the upcoming elections will be very challenging. We’ve been looking for more qualified and acceptable candidates to meet that challenge. Alternate candidates will also be made prepared. At the same time, Awami League will respond to various anti-government propagandas and promote the development that occurred in its regime.”

In this context, Awami League's organizing secretary SM Kamal Hossain told The Bangladesh Pratidin, "The popularity of leader Sheikh Hasina, her great development-works, along with acceptable candidates in all elections and the unity of the party leaders-activists will make the victory of Awami League inevitable InshaAllah. Our job is to unite the activists of grassroots. If we work concertedly from the central to the grassroots to implement the five instructions given by Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, then we will win the city corporations and national parliament elections as well.”

@The report was published in Bengali on print and online versions of The Bangladesh Pratidin on April 28 and rewritten in English by Lutful Hoque
