Eid has long been the most vibrant and commercially significant season for the Bangladeshi film industry. For audience, it is a time of celebration filled with entertainment, while for producers and directors, it represents the most lucrative window of the year. With Eid-ul-Fitr just concluded, films released during the festival are still drawing viewers to cinemas. At the same time, industry insiders have already shifted their focus to preparations for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha releases.
A total of five films hit theatres during the last Eid-ul-Fitr, generating considerable discussion among moviegoers. Among them, “Bonolota Express,” “Rakkhosh,” “Pressure Cooker,” and “Doom” managed to capture audience attention. However, “Bonolota Express” has emerged as the clear frontrunner, continuing to dominate the box office even after the festive period.
As anticipation builds for Eid-ul-Azha, several major productions are gearing up for release. One of the biggest highlights is “Roid,” directed by Mejbaur Rahman Suman, who previously earned critical and commercial acclaim with “Hawa.” The announcement of “Roid” has already created significant buzz, with the director confirming its nationwide release during Eid-ul-Azha.
Eid in Dhallywood has increasingly become synonymous with the release of a new Shakib Khan film. Although his previous Eid offering, “Prince,” did not perform well commercially, fans remain eager for his next project, “Rockstar.” The film marks the second on-screen collaboration between Shakib Khan and Sabila Nur, who were earlier seen together in “Tandoob.”
Another much-anticipated film is “Malik,” starring Arifin Shuvoo and Bidya Sinha Mim. The pair last appeared together in “Sapludu,” and their reunion has sparked excitement among fans. Directed by Saif Chandan, “Malik” was initially slated for release during last year’s Eid-ul-Fitr but is now being readied for Eid-ul-Azha.
Meanwhile, the long-delayed “Masud Rana,” directed by Saikat Nasir, is finally nearing completion. Despite facing years of production setbacks, the film’s producer Abdul Aziz has confirmed plans to release it during Eid-ul-Azha. The film features Russell Rana in the titular role, with Puja Cherry starring opposite him as Sohana.
Several other films are also in the pipeline. “Pinik,” starring Bubly and Ador Azad, has faced repeated delays despite being ready for release. It is once again being considered for an Eid-ul-Azha debut. Additionally, Raihan Khan’s “Tribunal,” featuring an ensemble cast including Tania Brishty, Nusrat Faria, Moushumi Hamid, and Saira Akhtar, is also likely to join the festive line-up.
