Aditya Dhar’s period spy thriller Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, witnessed a sharp decline on Saturday (day 51) at the domestic box office, earning just Rs 75 lakh. The dip comes after the release of Border 2, Anurag Singh’s sequel to JP Dutta’s 1997 war epic, starring Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, and Diljit Dosanjh.
The figure represents a minor increase from Friday’s Rs 55 lakh, but marks the film’s first day below Rs 1 crore since release. Prior to this, Dhurandhar had consistently earned over Rs 1 crore for 50 consecutive days, a rare feat in Indian cinema.
Discounted tickets at Rs 149 had briefly boosted mid-week earnings, with day 49 collecting Rs 1.10 crore and day 48 Rs 1.15 crore. The film dominated weeks 2 to 7, earning Rs 253.25 crore, Rs 173 crore, Rs 106.5 crore, Rs 51.25 crore, Rs 26.35 crore, and Rs 13.9 crore respectively. It also became the only Indian film to earn more in its second week than in its opening week of Rs 207.25 crore.
With domestic collections at Rs 886.20 crore, Dhurandhar is poised to join the Rs 900 crore club, though the release of Border 2 makes that milestone unlikely. Globally, the film has amassed around Rs 1442.20 crore, making it the fourth highest-grossing Indian film ever, behind Pushpa 2: The Rule (Rs 1744 crore), Baahubali 2 (Rs 1810.60 crore), and Dangal (Rs 2070.30 crore). Excluding China, it is already the highest-grossing Hindi film and the third highest-grossing Indian film worldwide.
