The passing of three-time former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un) has cast a pall of grief across Bangladesh, including the country’s entertainment industry. She reportedly breathed her last at 6:00 am on Tuesday at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.
Following the news, prominent figures from film, television, music, and cultural circles expressed their sorrow and paid tribute through social media.
Dhallywood superstar Shakib Khan wrote on his verified Facebook page that he was deeply saddened by the death of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. “I pray for the eternal peace of her soul and extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family,” he said.
Actress Apu Biswas described Khaleda Zia’s passing as a historic loss, writing that the eternal farewell to Bangladesh’s first female Prime Minister would remain etched in the hearts of the people for generations.
Shabnam Bubly prayed for forgiveness of the departed soul, while Nusrat Faria posted, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. May Allah forgive her and grant her Jannatul Firdous.”
Actress Azmeri Haque Badhon said Khaleda Zia was an integral part of Bangladesh’s political history whose leadership and public service left a lasting impact on the nation.
Filmmaker Mabrur Rashid Bannah bid farewell to the “uncompromising leader,” calling her a symbol of Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty.
Producer Redoan Rony said an important chapter in Bangladesh’s political history had come to an end with her passing, while actress Sadia Jahan Prova described her as a symbol of strength, patience and leadership.
Renowned singer Kanak Chapa, along with actors Ashna Habib Bhabna, Siam Ahmed, Puja Cherry, Arosh Khan and many others, also expressed condolences, joining the nation in mourning the loss of one of Bangladesh’s most influential political figures.
