The film “Delupi”, based on the river-centric life and struggles of people in Khulna, has been officially selected for the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) 2026; one of the world’s most influential film festivals. Directed by Mohammad Tauqir Islam, “Delupi” marks his debut feature film.
The 55th edition of IFFR will be held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, from 29 January to 8 February 2026, bringing together leading filmmakers, emerging talents and industry representatives from across the globe. Through this prestigious selection, Delupi will represent Bangladesh’s independent cinema on an international platform.
The film will have its international premiere in the festival’s Bright Future section. Expressing his excitement, director Tauqir Islam said receiving the world premiere offer initially put the team in a dilemma, as they had promised to screen the film first for the people of Deluti Union and Bangladesh. “The festival authorities respected our wish, which made us very happy,” he added.
All the actors in the film are residents of different unions in Khulna, including Chironjit Biswas, Aditi Roy, Rudro Roy and Md Zakir Hossain.
