A Dhaka Executive Magistrate’s Court has issued arrest warrants for model and actress Mehazabien Chowdhury and her brother Alisan Chowdhury in a case filed on charges of threats and intimidation. The development became known on Sunday.
The pair had been ordered to appear in court on November 10, but did not attend. In response, Executive Magistrate Afroza Tania of Court-3 issued arrest warrants that same day and scheduled December 18 for submission of the arrest report.
According to case documents, the plaintiff—an acquaintance of the accused—paid Tk 27 lakh in cash and through bKash after being promised that Mehazabien would join him as a partner in a new business venture. When the accused failed to initiate any business activities and repeatedly delayed returning the money, tensions escalated.
The plaintiff alleges that after he requested repayment on February 11, he was instructed to meet the accused at a restaurant near Hatirjheel Road on March 16. There, Mehazabien, her brother, and several unidentified individuals allegedly verbally abused him and threatened him, saying he must not ask for the money again and warning him of serious harm if he approached their home.
When he sought help from Bhatara Police Station, officers advised him to file a case, leading Amirul Islam to lodge a complaint under Sections 107/117(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Reacting on social media, Mehazabien denied the allegations, writing on Facebook: “Some baseless ‘case’ news is being spread online using my name. I request all my journalist colleagues to refrain from publishing any unverified and untrue news.”
