A Dhaka court on Sunday imposed a travel ban on Awami League presidium member and former agriculture minister Abdur Razzaque, his wife, Shirin Akter Banu, and their son, Rejwan Shahnewaz Sujit, over allegations of corruption.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to petition the court.
ACC Assistant Director Abdul Malek filed the plea in court.
The ban was enacted following allegations of amassing illegal wealth through extortion, embezzlement of government funds, and selling party positions. The ACC filed a petition expressing concerns that the individuals might attempt to flee the country to evade justice.
On October 14, last year, Abdur Razzaque was arrested from the capital’s Eskaton by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
