Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mohammad Rafiqul Alam said further steps will be taken after receiving a reply to the letter sent to New Delhi regarding the extradition of ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India on August 5.
He said this in response to a question from reporters at the weekly briefing at the Foreign Ministry in the capital on Tuesday.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that a letter has been sent to India regarding the extradition of Sheikh Hasina. The reply to this letter has not come yet. Further steps will be taken once the reply is received.
In response to another question, the spokesperson said that if the letter is not responded to within the normal time, a subpoena will be issued to India. However, when asked how long the normal time is, the spokesperson did not provide specific information.
When asked about the current status of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and whether the Indian government has informed about it, the spokesperson said, "We have received questions from the media at various times in the past few days. The Foreign Advisor and Foreign Secretary have answered it. I do not have the scope to comment on this. I cannot say anything specific about this."
Earlier, Bangladesh sent a note to India to send back former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as she was charged with crimes against humanity. Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain told it to the reporters on Monday afternoon.
